I use MAMP on a regular basis to run a local server but I have yet to be able to find a way to compress the database files it creates and import them into a live MySQL database… So at the moment I only use MAMP to edit/create WordPress themes…

Is there a way to compress and import the database files MAMP creates with WordPress and import them into a live MySQL database?

I won’t be able to make it nor able to watch the stream. But I have a stand alone server (Apple OS X Server running 10.3.9) and I need assistance installing WordPress. I have several URL’s already and have several static IP’s.

Someone PLEASE be able to assist.

Hey Christy,

Thanks for the question. In a nutshell, WordPress is different than Blogger because it is a standalone Content Management System. If you have your own server, you can run your wordpress blog there instead of wordpress.com.

WordPress is written in PHP and has css available so that you can change your theme anyway you’d like.

There are tons of free wordpress themes available, some are free and some cost money.

The thing that makes wordpress great is the open source community that has really developed great widgets and extensions for it.

There’s an option in wordpress that will allow you to import all of your blogger post into your new blog! :) you should be excited about that.

I’d like to learn how you can change the style of the themes – does Word Press provide you with the HTML or a style sheet you can modify?

I’ve heard a lot of people say Word Press is much better than using Blogger. What are the benefits of Word Press over Blogger?
