Social Media Question of the Week: Is easily available content advancing society?
Our Social Media Club Editorial board convened this Saturday to discuss perhaps one of Social Media’s more sticky subjects: free content. To both our pleasure and consternation, music, news, film and other media is now readily available without payment, giving us increased access to almost any form of media we desire. However, at the same time that this move from paying for creative content, to creative content as value-add has been inspiring, entertaining, and often enlightening, it’s signaled a death toll for print media and ‘traditional’ music industry practices and called into question the viability of a true ‘creative class.’
What does this sea change mean for society at large? Our Social Media Question of the Week for YOU:
#SMCQ10 Is the EASE with which we are able to share content — be it music, words, pictures, etc. without payment — hurting creative industries or ultimately, helping advance society? By what measure does this matter?
