SMC Question of the Week: Popularity Contest or Relationship?
With celebrities and ‘average joes’ alike racing to build their number of followers and friends on Twitter, the divide between the various approaches to social media has become increasingly deep. A popularity contest for some, a broadcast medium to others and a valuable tool for relational communications, social media use is as diverse as its users. Most on the Social Media Club board agreed during Friday’s call that it’s the strength of the relationship, not the quantity of relationships that makes social media work.
